Kristen Molinaro | Yoga & Community Building Tips | Brandon, FL

In our Women in Wellness series, we spotlight inspiring women who are making waves in the wellness community. Today, we're excited to introduce you to Kristen Molinaro, founder of Keystone Yoga in Brandon, Florida, whose approach to yoga centers on building community and creating an empowering space for growth through consistent practice.

Meeting Kristen Molinaro

As the founder of Keystone Yoga, Kristen has created a studio that goes beyond physical poses to foster connection and personal growth. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes accessibility, empowerment, and meeting people where they are on their wellness journey.

"Every time I get on my mat, it feels like I'm returning home again and again," Kristen shares. "Yoga reminds me of who I am and helps me move through life with less anxiety and worry."

Beyond the Poses: Building Community Through Yoga

While many people initially come to Keystone Yoga seeking stress relief or physical strength, what they discover is much deeper. Kristen has intentionally created a space where students find clarity, peace, and true connection.

"A lot of people come in seeking stress relief or physical strength, and what they find is a deeper sense of clarity and peace," she explains. "They often describe the experience as healing and strong, not just physically but emotionally too. It's also about finding a supportive space where they can reconnect with themselves and truly feel seen."

Practical Tips for Your Yoga Journey

Kristen believes that yoga is truly for everyone, regardless of flexibility or experience level. Here are her practical tips for incorporating yoga into your life:

  1. Be Mindful of Your Breath: "Once you learn that, you will feel in control of anything that comes your way," Kristen explains. Conscious breathing is the foundation of a transformative practice.

  2. Honor Where You Are Today: Choose what works best for you and your body. There's no need to force yourself into poses that don't feel right—modification is part of the practice.

  3. Find a Community: Connect with like-minded individuals who want to see you be your best self. The support of a yoga community can dramatically enhance your practice and overall wellbeing.

Breaking Down Misconceptions

"The biggest misconception is that you need to be flexible to practice yoga!" Kristen emphasizes. "It's almost the total opposite—with a consistent practice is when your flexibility can start to improve. It's something you gain over time."

This perspective makes yoga more accessible and inviting to beginners who might otherwise feel intimidated by images of advanced practitioners in complex poses.

Try This at Home: A Simple Practice to Start

Ready to experience the power of mindful breathing? Kristen recommends this simple practice:

  1. Find an easy, comfortable seated position

  2. Inhale for a count of 3

  3. Pause at the top for 3

  4. Exhale for a count of 4

  5. Stay empty for 3

  6. Repeat several times

This breathing technique helps calm the nervous system and center your attention, making it perfect for beginners or those looking to reduce stress and anxiety.

Finding Empowerment Through Practice

For Kristen, the most transformative aspect of yoga is the confidence it builds. "The confidence yoga gives me is what I value most," she reflects. This self-assurance carries beyond the mat into all aspects of life.

What might surprise you about Kristen's background? Before discovering yoga, her "first love was Zumba and HIIT workouts." This diverse fitness background informs her inclusive approach to wellness.

Community Connections

Beyond regular classes, Keystone Yoga offers various opportunities for community engagement:

  • Monthly "Yoga in the Garden" sessions in partnership with Kerby's Nursery on the first Saturday of each month

  • Regular workshops featured on their social media and website

  • Visits from Master Teacher Sid McNairy, who shares messages of peace and empowerment

"At Keystone, we believe in meeting people where they are and helping them grow from there," Kristen says. "If something hurts, don't do it. We'll figure out a way to make it accessible in your body so you can gain whatever you need from this practice."
